An agenda item for the 8/15/11 City Council meeting will be a contract modification for the rock excavation on Pennsylvania Ave.
Additional rock was encountered during the excavation of the sanitary sewer as well as during the excavation of the east retaining wall. The anticipated rock excavation: 100 cubic yards; the actual amount removed: 685 cubic yards.
Although the price of excavating the rock will rise (by $94K), the rock along the east face may allow the reduction of the retaining wall by half, which may reduce the contract by approximately $35K.
